Joining me:
Dr Marie Metoyer, a past MLK award recipient & retired psychiatrist, who witnessed segregation as a girl in New Jersey.
Ned Helms, Director of the NH Institute for Health Policy and Practice, who co-chaired the Obama campaign in NH.
And, Erin Thesing, a UNH student and Obama volunteer who served as a delegate at the democratic national convention.
Q MARIE: As someone who witnessed segregation, dealt with discrimination -- lived thru the race riots in the late 60's in NH -- what does this moment in history represent to you?
Q MARIE: Does the election of Obama mean that Dr King's dream has been fulfilled? .
Q NED: Are you struck by the confluence of events with MLK birthday on Monday and the Inauguration of Barack Obama one day later?
Q NED: You've lived thru 10 NH primaries --you're a veteran of political campaigns. WHAT was different about this campaign?
Q ERIN: Carolyn Kennedy said of Obama that he demonstrated a special gift for inspiring young people and getting them engaged. What moved you to get involved?
You suspended your STUDIES to work on the campaign ?
Q ERIN: What does the Inauguration MEAN to you?
Q MARIE: Your first CAMPAIGN. Other black men have run for office Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton - WHY --not those campaigns, why OBAMA?
Q MARIE: Is RACE off the table now. Does Obama's election indicate that RACISM for all practical purposes no longer exist in America?
Q ERIN: You've said --Obama represented a president that could speak for YOUR generation. How so? What message resonated.
Q NED: We've certainly heard talk about a generational change before with JFK. Are there parallels here -- or NOT?
Q MARIE: You've also voiced Safety concerns about this President?
Q NED: Issues of Safety -- not often talked about -- but, there nonetheless..
Q NED: When Obama's name is read at the Inauguration his middle name Hussein will be used --not just the initial. Obama's choice. WHAT is he trying to communicate? What does this say to the rest of the world.
Q MARIE: Your relatives in Canada and Japan.what do they say. Only in America.
Q ERIN: What will you be doing INAUGURATION day. MARIE: What are your PLANS?
Q NED: You'll be there as well. Important to witness history first hand.
Q ERIN: A lot of expectations for this President. What will YOU be looking for ?
Q MARIE: Something you'll be watching for, hoping for from this new President.
Q NED: At the top of your WISH list when Obama is in office?
Q This is being treated like a NATIONAL holiday. Events around NH on Inauguration Day.a sense of Unity --as we usher in a new president. OPTIMISM.
Thank you ALL for sharing your thoughts.
Obama has said more than once.along the campaign trail."we have a Righteous wind at our back.but we can't slow down now.

The presidential inauguration is an event that's about as close to a royal coronation as American government gets. It's a day filled with ceremony, guards, salutes, parades, speeches, a party that's actually still called a "ball" and, of course, symbolism: of new beginnings, rites of passage, of change. It's the president's opportunity to declare his administration's intent: At John F. Kennedy's inauguration in 1961, he made his legendary "Ask not what not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country" speech.
It's also an opportunity for surreal mismatches, as anyone who remembers the sight of President George W. Bush dancing awkwardly next to Ricky Martin during the 2001 inaugural celebrations can attest.
The historic nature of Barack Obama's presidency — not to mention his oratorical abilities — guarantees that his inauguration on January 20, 2009, will be one for the ages.
Until that day, Obama will not be president; he'll be president-elect, meaning that the people have voted him in power, but he hasn't taken office. While the lag between election and inauguration was originally designed to allow for travel in pre-rapid-transit days, it has since become the sitting president's opportunity to finish up his term and/or tidy up his office — and, of course, issue last-minute pardons.
The inauguration usually takes place at noon on the steps of the west front of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. Chief Justice John Roberts Jr., an appointee of outgoing President Bush, will oversee the changing of the guard by administering the oath, which traditionally is done on a Bible. Also present will be members of the U.S. armed forces, since the president is also commander-in-chief.
Joe Biden, the vice president-elect, will take his oath first, in the same ceremony. A band will play "Hail to the Chief," the infantry guard will give a 21-gun salute, and then Obama will make his inaugural address — his first speech to the country as president.
The United States Congress then will invite Obama and Biden to lunch, after which Obama will parade down from the Capitol to the White House.
And after all this pomp and circumstance, it's party time. Inaugural celebrations can last up to five days after the initial ceremony, but the most anticipated one is the Inaugural Ball — tickets, which are available on various ticket Web sites at exorbitant prices, are going fast. The official inauguration Web site unhelpfully says: "Tickets for the Inaugural swearing-in ceremony will be distributed to constituents in January 2009 by both Senators and Representatives of Congress of the 111th Congress."
It seems likely that the events surrounding the inauguration will be the kind of star-studded affair that Obama's victory celebration Tuesday night was not. The day before the election, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Obama campaign had asked some of its famous supporters to stay away from Tuesday's rally. Although the campaign is reportedly grateful for the high-profile support, several prominent celebs had reportedly been asked "politely but very firmly" to skip the rally — and focus on attending the Obama inauguration.
An Obama insider reportedly told the newspaper's Bill Zwecker that Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Sean "Diddy" Combs , Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and Ben Affleck were among those asked to stay away.
"There really only needs to be one star in Grant Park, and that's Barack," the insider reportedly said. "There will be plenty of time for a new President Obama to be surrounded by famous fans, all hopeful about a new administration."
So either way, on January 20 our nation's capital looks to be filled with A-listers of every stripe.

In his role as president, however, Obama will inevitably fail to produce the kind of Utopian results his more enthusiastic supporters expect.
Civil rights leaders vow to bring thousands of supporters to President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20, the day after Martin Luther King Day.
The Rev. Al Sharpton said he would move his annual King Day celebration from New York to Washington as blacks converge on the nation's capital to salute Obama.

Q When you heard Obama was elected.what was your reaction? Thoughts entering the voting booth?
Is the election of Obama as the first African-American president of the United States mean that Dr. King's dream has been fulfilled?
January 15th, 2009 will mark what would have been the 80th birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. On January 19th we commemorate Dr. King's birthday as a national holiday. The following day, "January 20th, a country that, within living memory, denied some black citizens the right to vote will inaugurate its first black president. A man with a funny name and African blood will stand where 43 white men have stood before him and take the oath of office."
witnessing history first hand I have a dream speech about 4o years ago
What would dr king say about the election of Obama.
Senator Obama say, more than once, during the closing weeks of his presidential campaign that we have a "righteous wind at our back, but we can't slow down now."
Obama's ear and ideas are "more in tune" with the hopes and dreams of a new multi-racial internet generation than any other national leader in America.
The pursuit and celebration of educational excellence may be taking hold as a realistic, potentially possible alternative lifestyle. To them, if Obama can be elected President of the United States of America, then, opportunities may exist, that they never seriously considered as "real" for them, to pursue and become the best that they can be.
Caroline Kennedy said it best:
"He has built a movement that is changing the face of politics in this country, and he has demonstrated a special gift for inspiring young people -- known for willingness to volunteer, but an aversion to politics -- to become engaged in the political process."
Like a national holiday. never like it.
